Beginning Drop Spindle Spinning

Spindle spinning is a wonderful, portable way to begin your own yarn-making journey. If you've been curious about how yarn is made and exploring the properties of different fibers, this is a great class to get you started. Teachers Anna Hosick-Kalahan and Jessica Schwab will have an assortment of their locally sourced roving to demonstrate with. Drop spindles are available for purchase at Strikke, or you can bring your own.

Intro to Drop Spindle

Spinning fiber into thread is one of the great joys of a fiber artist’s journey, and using a spindle is a classic way to get started. In this class Anna Hosick-Kalahan, co-owner of Skagit Woolen Works, will explore wool fleece, its properties, and which fibers are well suited for spindle. You will learn about different types of spindles and their components, how to draft, the park and draft method, and winding on. We will have a variety of Skagit Woolen Works’ locally sourced roving to play with, and you’ll have the opportunity to purchase a spindle and more roving to take home with you.
Skill Level:
This class is geared towards beginner students, no experience required.
Students Bring to Class:
Everything will be provided, though you are welcome to bring your own spindle.

Intro to Wheel Spinning
Register hereHosted by Wool Friends in Ballard. March 20th, 6-8:30pm.
In this class Anna Hosick-Kalahan, co-owner of Skagit Woolen Works, will explore wool fleece, its properties, and which fibers are well suited for wheel spinning. You will learn about different types of spinning wheels and their components, how to draft, and basic maintenance while spinning a worsted single. We will have a variety of Skagit Woolen Works’ locally sourced roving to play with, and you’ll have the opportunity to order a wheel and purchase roving to take home with you.
Skill Level:
This class is suitable for beginners, especially those that are new wheel owners.
Students Bring to Class:
Everything will be provided, though you are welcome to bring your own spinning wheel.
